About the AAA

AAA Activities

The AAA achieves it's mission through the following activities which are conducted on a voluntary basis by AAA members:

1) Student Affairs Resources: Alums of various colleges in the US volunteer their time to give students, who wish to study in the same schools as them, unbiased information on their alma mater. This cell also maintains the AAA website (www.americanalumni.net).

2) Grants: Every year, the AAA sponsors the travel costs of 10 to 18 needy students who have received admission in the US. Out of hundreds of applications for this aid, qualifying students are chosen on the basis of need, academic background, and reputation of US College, uniqueness & relevance of their chosen course to India. The awards are handed to them at the annual Travel Grants Award Ceremony.

3) Member Events: The AAA hosts many events to promote fellowship and education among its members. They include:

a. AAA Annual Social Dinner: This gala party held in January, is one of the highlights of Mumbai's social calendar. It gives members a chance to review the past year at AAA and look forward to the NewYear.

b. Fellowship Gathering: "Thirsty Thursdays": On the third Thursday of every month, the AAA has an informal get together at a selected venue between 6:30PM – 8:30PM. Here members interact socially with music, snacks & drinks.

c. Brain Storming Session: "Six on Six": A more formal gathering hosted at a member's house where generally AAA members & prospective members get together for brain storming session where exchange of ideas take place, knowledge is shared and work out strategy for the association and it's activities.

d. Quarterly Gathering: The AAA's membership constitutes a large group of successful, globally aware & discerning individuals. Hence, many places like "Insomnia" at the Taj Hotel, "Sidewok", "Red-light" and "The Club" have hosted free parties for our members.

e. Speaker Events: We have had many high quality speakers address our members over the years. They include Dr. Howard Stevenson (Prof. from Harvard Business School), Dr. Roger Penrose (Nobel Laureate Physicist), Mr. Nigel Griffith (UK Minister of Industry), US Consul General Mr. Michael Owen and many more.

The American Alumni Association goes from strength to strength every year. This is mainly due to the involvement of its committed members. There is no other organization in India that enables a person to interact with such a large number of globally educated people while giving a chance to give back to society.
